If you were stranded on a desert island, which book would you take with you? (Survival books do not count)
eep! I think it would have to be The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison because it’s the one I can see myself rereading the most?

Who is your all-time favourite book character?
I adore Maia from The Goblin Emperor, but I also love Sansa Stark. Or, most recently, I’ve completely fallen in love with Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells (Murder Most Unladylike series). To be honest, it takes a lot for me to pick out a specific character as something special, even when I’ve utterly adored the book.

What’s your most unpopular book opinion?
Not every single aspect of world-building needs to be explained to death in the text. I think this is something most particular to SFF but, as much as I love good, rich worldbuilding, and I know authors are supposed to know all the ins-and-outs of their universe, I’ve noticed a lot of more recent books feel the need to overexplain. Sometimes things can just be, and move on with the story.
What’s your weirdest bookish habit?
I don’t think I have any weird ones, at least not things considered weird in the online book community. TBRs, multiple books at a time, and readathons are probably a little odd outside our community.
What character would you bring to a family event as your fake partner?
The smart option here is someone like Mr Darcy, right? But everyone’s going to think I’m a bit weird for showing up with someone in regency garb anyway, so why not really go all in?
I’d pick Sandor Clegane, The Hound from Game of Thrones. He’s big enough to elbow me some space at the buffet, and tall enough to help me see over the crowds. He’s scary enough to chase off the people I don’t want to speak to, and grumpy enough to keep his mouth shut when I do what to chat with someone else. And he’s strong enough to carry me home at the end of the night.

What made you decide to start a book blog?
I honestly don’t remember exactly why. I was getting interested in the book community and wanted to start contributing? I was getting back into fiction reading at the time too.
What about reading and books do you love the most?
I love finding new worlds and adventures.
What is your field of study/desired profession/current profession?
Well, I have a degree in sociology and Scottish history, but although I work at a University, I’m not actually an academic. My department provides reading materials for visually impaired, blind and print-disabled students.
What are some book recommendations that became your favourites/obsessions?
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a lot of things I wouldn’t have thought I’d be interest in — the era, the celebrity angle, the faux-memoir — but it was huge on book twitter at the time. So I gave it a tentative try. And I fucking loved it.

What is the book you shove down everyone’s throat?
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. I just think it’s a really good all-rounder, and not so heavily fantasy-world heavy that it would put off non-SFF readers.

Had fun reading your answers Louise!!

Very fun tag! I also don’t blame you for not remembering why you started a book blog. I’ve been blogging for so many years now (15 years now, yikes) that I don’t remember why I started mine, either.

It’s cool that you work at a university!
I’d love to do that someday.
I had a student position at the university I attended and really enjoyed seeing the backend of keeping such a thing going.
Maybe someday I’ll be lucky enough to return to this sort of environment. 🙂

Good luck! 😊 It can be a really fun environment to work in, because there’s usually always something going on! Our campus usually has a decent number of films and events open to staff as well as students.
It can make you feel a little old before your time though lol
