Welcome to #Hamilthon, a readathon inspired by Hamilton: An American Musical.
Now, I know there are a lot of incredible readathons going on this summer, but I just couldn’t let this opportunity pass without marking it somehow.
To celebrate the release on Hamilton to Disney+ on July 3rd, we’re having a mini-round of our Hamilton themed readathon. This will be a shorter and more relaxed round, leaving plenty of time for watching the actual musical.
This round will run from 1st July to 14th July in your timezone.
Please feel free to follow the Instagram account (@hamilthon_read) and the Twitter account (@hamilthon_read) for updates throughout the month.
Use the hashtag (#hamilthon) so we can follow and RT your progress.
The Rules for Reading
Anything you can add on Goodreads will count as a book. This can be graphic novels, audiobooks, ebooks etc.
Each book can only count for one prompt in the chain. Once you’ve reached a character and won the challenge, you can replay different routes, reusing books if you want.
Books do not need to be connected to Hamilton, musicals, history etc in any way. They just need to fit the individual prompt. However, if you did want to add some non-fiction or Hamilton-inspired historical fiction, I posted a few ideas before the first round but there may well be more to chose from now.
Prompts
July 3rd: Read a book that strikes you as a ‘summer read’.
2020: Read a recent release.
Disney Plus: Read a retelling.
Streaming: Reread a book or read a book you think you’ll love enough to reread in the future.
Out of the Vault: Read a book that’s been on your TBR for ages.
Alexander Hamilton: Read a book set in the past.
An American Musical: Read a book that features music somewhere in the title or on the cover.
Sounds like a lot of fun! And I still have a little time to decide if I have the brainpower to commit to a readathon right now… I’ll tell you, though, Hamilton coming to Disney+ might just be what gets me to buy Disney+. I feel like a bad Disney fan for procrastinating it this long.

I paid for the year upfront and I’ve probably got my money out of it already just in watching cartoon tv series from my childhood lol

LOL, I hear that. We own so many of the DVDs that it’s hard to pay for all the same content AGAIN, but with the new stuff they’re adding it’s starting to be worth it.
