Here we shall begin to tell a story: a tale of a throne lost, of monsters and magic. A tale of gods and of the shadow realm. But this, our story, it begins in our world, in the land of mortals.
It begins with a woman. For this story, it is her story. It begins with her.
The Jazz Age is in full swing, but Casiopea Tun is too busy cleaning the floors of her wealthy grandfather’s house to listen to any fast tunes. Nevertheless, she dreams of a life far from her dusty, small town in southern Mexico. A life she can call her own.
Yet this new life seems as distant as the stars, until the day she finds a curious wooden box in her grandfather’s room. She opens it–and accidentally frees the spirit of the Mayan God of Death, who requests her help in recovering his throne from his treacherous brother. Failure will mean Casiopea’s demise, but success could make her dreams come true.
In the company of the strangely alluring god and armed with her wits, Casiopea begins an adventure that will take her on a cross-country odyssey, from the jungles of Yucatán to the bright lights of Mexico City–and deep into the darkness of the Mayan underworld.
REASONS I’M EXCITED FOR GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW
That cover is so beautiful it blows my mind. Plus the colour combo is my favourite!
“…Roaring Twenties with Prehispanic [Mexican] Mythology”. I’ve never read any thing like this, but it’s something I desperately need in my life!
“The Mayan God of Death sends a young woman on a harrowing, life-changing journey…“.Epic quests! From Death itself! YES!
WWW WEDNESDAYS
What are you currently reading?
Lots of readalong stuff at the moment.
ebook: Rereading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin for the #IronThroneReadalong
paperback: Trespass by Rose Tremain for the “Green Cover” #AGameofBooksathon prompt and for my library bookgroup.
Audiobook: Ashes of Honor (October Daye, #6) by Seanan McGuire for the monthly #ADayeAMonth
What did you recently finish reading? A Thread of Darkness (Queen Bees Quilt Shop #2) by Sally Goldenbaum
What do you think you’ll read next? Maybe Dragon Whisper or Death by Dumpling.
I’m not really into mythical books or those filled with monsters. Probably why I couldn’t get into Game of Thrones. I do like the cover of Gods of Jade and Shadow though. Here’s my WWW – https://whisperingstories.com/www-wednesday-reading-5th-june-2019/

I would quite like to re-read the game of thrones books at some point, I would be tempted to wait until there was a release date for at the winds of winter first. Happy reading!

I love this author and really need to check this one out. Although I’m still waiting for a sequel to Certain Dark Things. I don’t think there is one planned though but a girl can hope.

Wow the cover of Gods Of Jade And Shadow is gorgeous! I also kind of want to reread the ASOIAF books at some point as it’s been too long since I finished them… Although I’m not sure when I’ll have enough time to do so. xD Have a wonderful week and happy reading!

They sure are! I remember it took me about a month to read each book, although I do admit I read them in between other books (surprisingly easy to do with each chapter being a different character 😉 )

And I’d each chapter is actually really short, so that’s nice for breaking it up. 😊

True! And with each being focused on a different storyline and character, it’s really easy to jump in again each time.

That cover is really gorgeous! Also I love that it’s the roaring twenties setting, I don’t see a lot of books in that time period.
