These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling
Expected Publication: May 28th 2019
Genres: YA Fantasy
Pages: 336
Hannah’s a witch, but not the kind you’re thinking of. She’s the real deal, an Elemental with the power to control fire, earth, water, and air. But even though she lives in Salem, Massachusetts, her magic is a secret she has to keep to herself. If she’s ever caught using it in front of a Reg (read: non-witch), she could lose it. For good. So, Hannah spends most of her time avoiding her ex-girlfriend (and fellow Elemental Witch) Veronica, hanging out with her best friend, and working at the Fly by Night Cauldron selling candles and crystals to tourists, goths, and local Wiccans.
But dealing with her ex is the least of Hannah’s concerns when a terrifying blood ritual interrupts the end-of-school-year bonfire. Evidence of dark magic begins to appear all over Salem, and Hannah’s sure it’s the work of a deadly Blood Witch. The issue is, her coven is less than convinced, forcing Hannah to team up with the last person she wants to see: Veronica.
While the pair attempt to smoke out the Blood Witch at a house party, Hannah meets Morgan, a cute new ballerina in town. But trying to date amid a supernatural crisis is easier said than done, and Hannah will have to test the limits of her power if she’s going to save her coven and get the girl, especially when the attacks on Salem’s witches become deadlier by the day.
REASONS I’M EXCITED FOR THESE WITCHES DON’T BURN
- Queer witches!
- I love the cover. Especially those illustrated character cards.
WWW WEDNESDAYS
What are you currently reading?
ebook: Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan
Hardback: Death Prefers Blondes by Caleb Roehrig
Audiobook: A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
What did you recently finish reading? Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. This was a (second? third?) reread. I actually like it more this time around for some reason. I watched the animated movie afterwards and it was really fun. It’s on YouTube if you’re interested.
What do you think you’ll read next? I have no idea!
I’ll be interested in what you think of A Man Called Ove. I didn’t like it as much as others did. In fact, I preferred the film version.

I’ve not watched the film (yet) but I think there might be a remake in the works too? I might try to get ahold of a copy afterwards if I can. 😊
I found the beginning a little tough, and I think the other book of his I’ve read will remain my favourite, but I’m liking it more as I go along.

These Witches Don’t Burn looks like a lot of fun. I love books set in Salem. I’ve never actually read a Pratchett book – my hubby loves them and has loads so I really have no excuse.

I’m a huge Pratchett fan! It’s been a couple of years since I reread them so I’m picking some to read again over this year.

I enjoyed Wyrd Sisters more on my re-reading of it than I did the first time too, though I did still enjoy that first reading. 🙂
