The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. We share the first sentence and whatever thoughts of impressions it provokes. For the Friday 56, hosted by Freda’s Voice, we share a few lines from either page 56 or 56%.
Opening Line:
Dusk at the end of winter, and two men crossed the dooryard of a palace scarred by fire.
Page 56:
Even after Vasya had told him the truth, in the hours after Moscow had caught fire and been saved by snow, Sasha had hardly believed his sister’s tale of devils. He was about to demand again that Varvara tell him properly where Vasya was, when Olga broke in: “What does that mean, that the Bear is loose? Who is the Bear? Loose to do what?”.
Book Summary:
One girl can make a difference…
Moscow is in flames, leaving its people searching for answers – and someone to blame. Vasilisa, a girl with extraordinary gifts, must flee for her life, pursued by those who blame their misfortune on her magic.
Then a vengeful demon returns, stronger than ever. Determined to engulf the world in chaos, he finds allies among men and spirits. Mankind and magical creatures alike find their fates resting on Vasya’s shoulders.
But she may not be able to save them all.

15th – 21st – Have you ever thought about taking a break from blogging/Booktubing (if you’re a Booktuber)? If you have, how long was the break and what did you learn from it? (submitted by Danielle @ PoetryBooksYA)
Knock on wood, I’ve not had to take a full on break yet. Sometimes I switch up the weekly memes I take part in to keep from getting bored of them, and I’ve moved the number of reviews I post per week up and down to something I’m comfortable with.
Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.
This book looks so great, I’m going to binge read all three of them, very soon 🙂

That sound like a great way too read them! I wish I’d be able to jump straight from the second one into this one.

Your book has a sense of a fairytale from the past. I wonder if it has its roots in any fairytales?
As for taking a break from blogging, I have never stopped all my blogs at once but I did recently (gulp) close down two blogs because they were so neglected. It was time.

I think it’s inspired by Russian folktales and mythology in a general sense. 🙂
Wow! Running multiple blogs at once is mind-blowing to me. I’m not surprised it was a lot of work for you! I think you deserve kudos for keeping all three going for any lengh of time!

Is this the third book in the series? I keep reminding myself to read the second book but forget to do it when I am casting about for something new to read. Loved the first book. My Friday quotes come from Life on Mars

I am excited about reading Arden’s books. I keep hearing good things about them, and this sounds like a great addition to her series. I sometimes switch up the memes or blogging schedule too, although not so much recently. I do take breaks now and then, depending on what is going on in my life. I hope you have a great weekend!
