February 12: Favorite Couples In Books
Tell me what you think! Who are your favourite couples? Are there any you really don’t like? What type of relationships do you root for?
Kitty and Mr Adams
What Kitty Did Next by Carrie Kablean — I know Lizzie and Darcy are the classic choice, but if you wanted to change things up, this as a lovely slow-burn romance and really develops Kitty as a character in her own right. The best Pride and Prejudice retelling or sequel I’ve read.

Lydia and John
Speaking of Pride and Prejudice, another perfect couple are Lydia and John from The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox. There are misunderstandings and near misses but these two could easily be the next Jane and Rochester, or Lizzy and Darcy.
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Rhen and Harper
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer.
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Drystan and Micah
Pantomime by Laura Lam — This wasn’t a couple I saw coming at the beginning of the series, but they go through so much together and are perfect and supporting of each other throughout. Love them!
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Prunella and Zacharias
Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho — These two combine my absolute favourite couple dynamic: loyal and sweet Hufflepuff boy, cunning and practical Slytherin girl.
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Beast and Sybella
Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers.

Bryony and Beast
Bryony and Roses by T. Kingfisher — This is a lovely, meandering Beauty and the Beast retelling with Beauty as an avid gardener and lover of bad poetry, and Beast as a gentleman scholar and mechanic.
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Celia and Evelyn
One of my favourite books ever? Celia and Evelyn from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Heart-wrenching and beautiful.
My Review // BookDepository // Wordery
Princesses Esofi and Adale
The Queen of Ieflaria by Effie Calvin. Opposites attract. Quiet and religious, formal, duty-driven Esofi and rebellious, outdoorsy Adale are adorable together.

Helena and Justin
The Matrimonial Advertisement by Mimi Matthews.

Great list! I really want to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo this year, especially as it took me until the end of last year to find out it’s queer, and I agree with Sybella and Beast – I LOVE their relationship. I think they’re actually another example of a Hufflepuff x Slytherin match, actually, Beast is so sweet.

Hah! I never thought of them as Hufflepuff/Slytherin, but now you’ve said it I can totally see it!
My type is showing even more than I thought XD

In P&P, wasn’t Lydia the one who ran off and caused Darcy to enter the scene? It’s been a while since I read it!

She totally was, yeah! XD The one that Darcy strong-armed Wickham into marrying.

I’m reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely at the moment, and I’m not a massive fan of Rhen/Harper. I’m glad you liked them together though!

That’s a shame! Do you prefer Grey or is the romance just not working for you?
LikeLike
I think a little of both, I like Grey as a character better than Rhen and the romance just isn’t working all that well for me.

Okay, now I really do need to read The Matrimonial Advertisement one of these days. I keep hearing such good things about Mimi Matthews’ stories.
This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

This was the second of her stories I’ve read (the first was a novella) and I really like her balance of history and romance.

Ooh Sybella and Beast. I haven’t read dark Triumph but I loved what I saw of them in Grave Mercy. I really need to go back and finish that series!

ooooh! I really hope you get around to Dark Triumph sometime! Personally, I actually preferred it to Grave Mercy (which is rare for me and second books). I hope you enjoy that one too! 😊
