I loved this show so much, we watched it in two nights. If you’ve not seen it – go now. It has a great old-school feel, a fascinating mystery and genuinely jump-out-your-seat moments. I can’t wait for season 2 to start! Tag from Curly Haired Bibliophile.
THE VANISHING OF WILL BYERS
THE FIRST BOOK IN A SERIES THAT LEFT YOU INTRIGUED AND SLIGHTLY CONFUSED
A Court and Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I read this recently and was confused by the amount of raving and fangirling I’d seen over over Rhysand at that point. I was intrigued enough to read A Court of Mist and Fury straight after though, and then of course it all made sense.
THE UPSIDE DOWN
A WORLD YOU WOULD NEVER WANT TO LIVE IN
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Is anyone happy in this world? Slaves and enslaved peoples, fear everywhere, even the privileged Martials live strict and ruthless lives.
A BOOK YOU OWN THAT IS SOMEWHAT DAMAGED, BUT LOVED TO PIECES
The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. This series is so long, I mostly picked them up second-hand. And them I read each one multiple times. I’d really love a new, matching set but I’m not even sure where I’d put them all to display, right now they’re shoved in boxes under the bed.
MIKE, LUCAS AND DUSTIN
A TRILOGY YOU ALWAYS GO TO WHENEVER YOU NEED A PICK-ME-UP
Completely cheating on this one, but a series that picks me up is The Circle of Magic quartet by Tamora Pierce. The fourth book can count as Will, right? I love every single character and how they all pull together in every story.
A BOOK WITH A TERRIFYING BEAST THAT YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO MEET IN A DARK ALLEY
Babs from Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter and her helping hands, Sin and Dex. Firstly the hands are just plain creepy and secondly Babs in completely ruthless, inflicting hideous punishments for minor offences.
A BOOK WITH A VILLAIN THAT IS BOTH MANIPULATIVE AND DEDICATED
The Darkling from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo is perfect for this category. Not only does he manipulate Alina, he convinces Genya and other Grisha to follow him. He’s also incredibly dedicated – he spends centuries working to achieve his goals.
